E-Signature Providers for Germany Compared 2026

German businesses looking for an e-signature solution face a growing range of options. Global market leaders, European specialists and Swiss providers compete for the market. But not all solutions are equally suited when it comes to eIDAS compliance, GDPR requirements and the particularities of German law.

This comparison examines four providers from the perspective of German businesses: actaSIGN, Skribble, DeepSign and DocuSign.

Note: All information about competitors is based on publicly available data (as of April 2026). We recommend checking the current terms directly with each provider.

What German Businesses Need

Before diving into the comparison, it is worth considering the requirements that are typical for German businesses:

  1. eIDAS compliance — All three signature levels (SES, AES, QES) under eIDAS
  2. GDPR compliance — Data processing in the EU or a country with an adequate level of data protection
  3. BGB Section 126a — QES capability for contracts with statutory written form requirements
  4. Transparent pricing — Predictable costs, no hidden fees
  5. Integration — Connection to existing DMS, ERP and HR systems
  6. German-language support — Reachable contacts, ideally without a ticket system

The Providers at a Glance

actaSIGN

actaSIGN is the e-signature platform of axelity ag (Switzerland). The solution supports all three signature levels (SES, AES, QES) and uses Swisscom Trust Services as its Trust Service Provider. Swisscom is accredited under the Swiss ZertES and listed on the EU Trusted List — signatures are therefore legally valid across the entire EU.

Hosting: Swiss data centre, without international cloud providers (no AWS, Azure or Google Cloud).

Key strengths for the German market:

  • Active DMS integrations with Kendox and docuvita — both established document management systems in Germany and Austria
  • Personal German-language support without a ticket system
  • Prices from CHF 11 per user per month, with signature quotas of all levels included

Skribble

Skribble is a Swiss provider based in Zurich (founded 2018). The platform supports all three signature levels and also uses Swisscom Trust Services. Skribble has strong brand recognition in the DACH region and offers an intuitive user interface.

Hosting: Switzerland or Germany (choice available).

Pricing: From CHF 9 per month. Signatures are charged additionally based on usage, depending on the plan. Features vary between plans (Fair, Business, Enterprise).

DeepSign

DeepSign is the e-signature solution of DeepCloud AG, a subsidiary of Abacus Research AG. DeepSign supports all three signature levels and is particularly closely integrated with the Abacus ERP suite.

Hosting: Switzerland.

Key note: For businesses already using Abacus ERP, DeepSign offers a seamless integration. In the German market, however, Abacus is less prevalent than in Switzerland.

DocuSign

DocuSign is the global market leader from the USA with over 1.5 million customers worldwide. The platform offers an extensive ecosystem with over 400 integrations and supports 40+ languages.

Hosting: Primarily USA. Since 2022, DocuSign has also offered EU hosting (Frankfurt) — though not for all plans and regions. The specific hosting location should be clarified contractually.

Signature levels: SES and AES natively. For QES under eIDAS, partner integrations are required.

A Closer Look: What Matters Most for German Businesses

Data Protection and Hosting

For German businesses, GDPR compliance is non-negotiable. actaSIGN and DeepSign host exclusively in Switzerland. Skribble offers a choice between Swiss and German hosting. All three Swiss providers keep data within the European legal sphere — Switzerland's data protection level is recognised as adequate by the European Commission.

DocuSign offers EU hosting in Frankfurt but uses AWS infrastructure. For businesses with strict hosting requirements — particularly in regulated industries — this distinction matters.

eIDAS and BGB Section 126a

All four providers are eIDAS-compliant. For the QES — which under BGB Section 126a can replace written form in Germany — actaSIGN, Skribble and DeepSign all use the same Trust Service Provider: Swisscom Trust Services. The difference lies in the implementation, the workflows and the price.

DocuSign provides QES through partner integrations. For businesses that regularly sign documents subject to statutory written form requirements, native QES support is simpler.

DMS Integration in the German Market

For businesses using a document management system, integration is decisive. actaSIGN offers active integrations with Kendox and docuvita — two DMS systems established in the German and Austrian markets.

Skribble offers various integrations, DeepSign is primarily oriented towards the Abacus ecosystem. DocuSign has the broadest ecosystem with over 400 connectors — but integration with German-market DMS systems needs to be verified case by case.

Pricing Transparency

With most providers, the available features depend on the chosen plan. API access, SSO, multi-tenancy or IP whitelisting are often only available from a more expensive tier.

actaSIGN takes a different approach: all features are included in every licence. There is no feature gating — the difference between plans lies in the number of users and the included signature quota.

Additionally, actaSIGN is the only provider in this comparison offering two billing models: the classic per-signature model and a per-signing-process model (one document with up to 6 signers at a flat rate). The latter is particularly cost-effective for contracts with multiple parties — a common scenario in everyday business.

Support

German businesses typically expect German-language support with short response times. actaSIGN provides personal support without a ticket system — enquiries are handled directly by a contact person, not via a queue.

Skribble and DeepSign offer partially personal support, depending on the plan. DocuSign typically provides dedicated support only from the Enterprise tier.

Conclusion

For German businesses, there is no universally best e-signature provider — there is the right provider for the specific requirements. The Swiss providers (actaSIGN, Skribble, DeepSign) have the advantage of European hosting and native QES support. DocuSign scores with the largest integration ecosystem.

actaSIGN stands out on three points that are particularly relevant for the German Mittelstand: transparent pricing with all features in every plan, two billing models for different signing scenarios, and personal support without a ticket system. Businesses using Kendox or docuvita as their DMS will find a ready-made integration with actaSIGN.
